As a result, English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teaching has attracted researchers to probe into issues linked to classroom practices, learners' competencies and language skills. This study aims at improving middle school EFL learners ' written competence through a Cultural Reading Edutainment Training. For this purpose, a mixed-method experimental design was adopted. Ninety two fourth year middle school (4th YMS) learners participated in the study. Firstly, they took a pretest in writing, and answered a pre-treatment questionnaire, exploring their writing difficulties and their attitudes towards reading. Afterwards, twenty three learners were randomly selected to form the experimental group, who participated in the Cultural Reading Edutainment Training, whereas; the rest acted as the control group. Immediately after the experiment, both groups sat for a post test in writing. Next, the experimental group answered a post-treatment questionnaire, and an Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was conducted with eight participants to explore learners' attitudes towards the training. The collected data wee statistically and thematically analyzed. The findings of the pretest and the pre-treatment questionnaire showed that the learners write poorly because they encounter writing difficulties at the level of certain aspects like grammar, vocabulary, spelling, punctuation, and organization. Then, it was concluded that learners have positive attitudes towards reading and its importance in improving writing. Next, the results of the post test revealed a significant difference in learners' written competence between the two groups. The experimental group demonstrated a significant improvement in the written competence after the training. Additionally, the results of the post-treatment questionnaire and the FGD confirmed the efficacy of the training and reported the positive attitudes of the participants towards it. Therefore, the findings confirm the previously set research hypothesis; that if EFL teachers use Cultural Reading Edutainment Training, learners' written competence will improve. It is recommended to teach reading in a cultural context, using edutainment in the EFL classroom to improve learners' written competence. في الخط : http://dspace.univ-setif2.dz/xmlui/handle/123456789/2256 The Effect of a Cultural Reading Edutainment Training on Learners' Written Competence A Case of Fourth Year Middle School Learners : Hadri Miloud Middle School, Ouled M'hala, Setif. This study evaluated the perceptions of first year economics students, and English for Academic Purposes (EAP) teachers with the aim to improve the quality of the teaching/learning situation of English at the faculty by proposing a syllabus for first year economics students. For this purpose, a needs analysis was carried out to determine the students' academic needs. Data was obtained from questionnaires distributed to both EAP teachers and first year economics students which were analyzed in terms of frequency and percentages. The analysis of data has revealed that first year economics students need to be proficient in the four primary skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing with specific grammatical structures and vocabulary needed in order to understand economics discourse. Based on the findings of this research, this study indicates that an EAP syllabus, which takes into consideration the students' needs, should be developed at the faculty of Economics, Business and Management Sciences in Jijel University. في الخط : http://dspace.univ-setif2.dz/xmlui/handle/setif2/33 An eap syllabus for first year economcs students the case of the faculty of economics, business and management sciences.Jijel University [نص مطبوع ] / HADJI Sabrina, مؤلف ; Pr.
