Van Valin Jr. ناشر : Cambridge تاريخ النشر : 2023 عدد الصفحات : 314p. Ill. : ill. couv. en coul. الأبعاد : 21cm. ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-5275-9810-2 ثمن : 10900 نقطة عامة : Grammar, Comparative and general Syntax Role and reference grammar Semantics اللغة : إنكليزي (eng) الكلمة المفتاح : 400 - Langues 400 - Langues 400 - Langues 400 - Langues 400 - Language Semantics Grammar, general Syntax تكشيف : 425 Grammar English خلاصة : his volume brings together recent scholarship addressing a number of significant issues in linguistic theory and description, including verb classification, case marking, comparative constructions, noun phrase structure, clause linkage and reference-tracking in discourse. These topics are discussed with respect to a wide range of languages, including Bamunka (Bantu), Biblical Hebrew, Japanese, Persian, Pitjantjatjara (Australia), Russian and Taiwan Sign Language. The theoretical perspective employed in these analyses is that of Role and Reference Grammar (RRG), a theory which strives to describe language structure and grammatical phenomena in terms of the interaction of syntax, semantics and discourse-pragmatics. RRG differs from other parallel-architecture, constructionally-oriented theories in important ways, particularly with respect to the ability to formulate cross-linguistic generalizations. The ability of RRG to facilitate the formulation of cross-linguistic generalizations is exemplified well in the contributions to this volume. As such, this text makes important theoretical and descriptive contributions to contemporary linguistic discussions. Ill. : appendix.referanc.index couv en coul. الأبعاد : 21cm .prochet ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-108-74074-6 ثمن : 8300 نقطة عامة : English language Onomatopoeic words Onomatopoeia Sound symbolism اللغة : إنكليزي (eng) لغة اصلية : إنكليزي (eng) الكلمة المفتاح : 400 - Langues 400 - Langues 400 - Langues 400 - Langues 400 - Language Phonological Motivation تكشيف : 441 phonétique et sons خلاصة : We are fascinated by what words sound like. This fascination also drives us to search for meaning in sound - thereby contradicting the principle of the arbitrariness of the linguistic sign. Phonesthemes, onomatopoeia or rhyming compounds all share the property of carrying meaning by virtue of what they sound like, simply because language users establish an association between form and meaning. By drawing on a wide array of examples, ranging from conventionalized words and expressions to brand names and slogans, this book offers a comprehensive account of the role that sound symbolism and rhyme/alliteration plays in English, and by doing so, advocates a more relaxed view of the category 'morpheme' that is able to incorporate less regular word-formation processes. نقطة للمضمون : 1. Introduction; 2. Phonological motivation in language evolution and development; 3. Phonetic symbolism; 4. Onomatopoeia; 5. Rhyme and alliteration in blends and compounds; 6. Words, words, words: rhyme and repetition in multi-word expressions; 7. Conclusions: the piggy in the middle. Covering methodological, theoretical and computational approaches, this engaging introduction to sociophonetics brings new insights to age-old questions about language variation and change, and to the broader nature of language. It includes examples of important work on speech perception, focusing on vowels and sibilants throughout to provide detailed exemplification. The accompanying website provides a range of online resources, including audio files, data processing scripts and links. Written in an accessible style, this book will be welcomed by students and researchers in sociolinguistics, phonetics, speech sciences and psycholinguistics"-- Provided by publisher نقطة للمضمون : Preface; Acknowledgements; 1. This innovative study presents a dynamic network model of grammar in which all aspects of linguistic structure, including core concepts of syntax (e.g. phrase structure, word classes, grammatical relations), are analyzed in terms of associative connections between different types of linguistic elements. These associations are shaped by domain-general learning processes that are operative in language use and sensitive to frequency of occurrence. Drawing on research from usage-based linguistics and cognitive psychology, the book provides an overview of frequency effects in grammar and analyzes these effects within the framework of a dynamic network model. نقطة للمضمون : .
