عنوان : American world literature : An introduction نوع الوثيقة : نص مطبوع مؤلفين : Giles, Paul, مؤلف ناشر : Wiley Blackwell تاريخ النشر : 2019 عدد الصفحات : 220 p Ill. : couv en coul, ill الأبعاد : 15*24cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-119-43178-7 ثمن : 6240.00 DA اللغة : إنكليزي (eng) الكلمة المفتاح : 800 - Litterature 800 - Literature American literature, History, criticism, Comparative literature تكشيف : 820 English Literature and American Literature Anglo-Saxon خلاصة : "This book is designed to offer an overview of ways in which the subject areas of American Literature and World Literature have converged (and diverged) over the past twenty or thirty years. American literature is now widely regarded as engaging with global rather than merely with local or national phenomena, and American World Literature: An Introduction attempts to set these changing conceptions of the subject in both critical and historical context. It also suggests how this perception of American literature as a global or "world" phenomenon has varied significantly across time, so that the intellectual investments of Cotton Mather in ideas of universal forms during the seventeenth century can be productively compared and contrasted to the resurgence of nationalist and transnational templates in the poetry of Walt Whitman two hundred years later. In his preface to Literary Theory: An Introduction, published in 1983, Terry Eagleton wrote of how he had "tried to popularize rather than vulgarize the subject," and my intention here similarly is to address these complex historical and methodological issues in a way that might enlighten readers with little experience in the academic study of American literature, while still providing a sufficiently rounded view of these multifaceted matters to provoke interest in readers for whom the broad outlines of these debates will be more familiar"-- American world literature : An introduction [نص مطبوع ] / Giles, Paul, مؤلف . - Wiley Blackwell, 2019 . - 220 p : couv en coul, ill ; 15*24cm.

عنوان : Antiquities and classical traditions in Latin America نوع الوثيقة : نص مطبوع مؤلفين : Andrew, Laird, مؤلف ; Miller, Nicola, مؤلف ناشر : Wiley Blackwell تاريخ النشر : 2018 عدد الصفحات : 221 p Ill. تكشيف : 980 Histoire de l'Amérique latine خلاصة : This collection is the first concerted attempt to explore the significance of classical legacies for Latin American history - from the uses of antiquarian learning in colonial institutions to the currents of Romantic Hellenism which inspired liberators and nation-builders in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Discusses how the model of Roman imperialism, challenges to Aristotle's theories of geography and natural slavery, and Cicero's notion of the patria have had a pervasive influence on thought and politics throughout the Latin American region. Brings together essays by specialists in art history, cultural anthropology and literary studies, as well as Americanists and scholars of the classical tradition. Shows that appropriations of the Greco-Roman past are a recurrent catalyst for change in the Americas. Calls attention to ideas and developments which have been overlooked in standard narratives of intellectual history.
