عنوان : Recommendations for physical activity after stroke: Are they achieved before discharge from rehabilitation units? Titre original : Les recommandations à l'activité physique post-AVC : sont-elles atteintes à la sortie du service de réadaptation ? نوع الوثيقة : نص مطبوع مؤلفين : J. Lacroix, مؤلف ; J.-C. Daviet, مؤلف ; J. This study aimed to assess if post-stroke patients achieved the recommendations before leaving the physical medicine and rehabilitation unit. Material and method Physical activity time and number of steps taken by subjects were estimated using a SenseWear® armband (BodyMedia®, Pittsburgh, USA), which has a built-in triaxial accelerometer. Subjects wore the sensor 15 days prior to their discharge from the physical medicine and rehabilitation unit for two consecutive days on the non-paretic arm from 9 am to 4.30 pm. Results A total of 21 patients (mean age: 63±20 years), with a mean post-stroke period of 44±38 days and a mean Barthel index of 83±5/100, were enrolled in the study. The records showed that 39±32minutes on average per day were achieved by the patients, although seven patients did not achieve 30minutes of physical activity per day. No patient achieved the recommendations with 783±916 steps on average per day. Conclusion This study showed that two of three patients achieved the physical activity time recommendations when they left the physical medicine and rehabilitation unit; however, no patient achieved the recommended number of steps.
