This makes the three states in a daily confrontation with the European great powers in the modern times. With the beginning of the nineteenth century, the colonial powers show ambitions of conquest against the three countries, because of the degradation and weakness of these three countries, the Maghreb become under the colonial domination. Algeria was occupied in 1830, and then Tunisia fell under the French protectorate in 1881, followed by Morocco who fell under the French protection in 1912.
