اِرتبطت المدينة بالخطاب الروائي ما بعد الحداثي ارتباطًا وثيقًا، حتى غدت أحد أبرز تمثلات التحوّل في المجتمعات ما بعد الحداثية، لما تحمله من أبعاد اجتماعية، ونفسية، وثقافية، جعلت منها فضاءً متخيلًا تتبلور داخله صراعات الإنسان المعاصر، وقلقه، وهويته المتشظية. وقد ساهم هذا الفضاء في إعادة تشكيل السرد الروائي، من خلال تداخله مع تمثلات السلطة، والهامش، والذاكرة، فبرز في كثير من الروايات، خصوصًا الجزائرية منها، كـ بديل رمزي عن واقع مأزوم، ومجال دلالي يُعيد إنتاج العلاقة بين الفرد والمكان. ومن هنا، حضرت المدينة في روايات بشير مفتي لا كمجال عمراني فحسب، بل كـ خطاب ثقافي مشبع بالدلالات، يحتضن قلق الذات ويعيد إنتاجها.
نسعى في هذه الأطروحة إلى دراسة متخيل المدينة في روايات بشير مفتي، من خلال اعتماد قراءة ثقافية تُقارب الخطاب الروائي باعتباره معطًى ثقافيًا يُنتج المعنى من خلال التمثيل، ويعكس التحولات التي عرفها المجتمع الجزائري، خاصة في فترة ما بعد الاستعمار والعشرية السوداء. وتفترض الدراسة أن المدينة في هذا الخطاب لا تُقدّم بوصفها معطًى واقعيًا، بل كفضاء رمزي تتحرك داخله الشخصيات، وتتشكل عبره دلالات الهوية، والانتماء، والاغتراب، والرغبة في التحرر من قبضة القمع والتهميش.
وقد اعتمدنا في تحليل هذا المتخيل على أدوات ومفاهيم تنتمي إلى الدراسات الثقافية، تقوم على تفكيك الخطاب وتمثلاته، واستجلاء الرموز الثقافية الكامنة خلف اللغة السردية. وركزنا على كيفية تشكل الفضاء المديني من خلال ثنائية الرغبة والرّهبة، بما تحمله من دلالات ثقافية، كما أبرزنا العلاقة بين الثقافة المادية للمدينة، وبين بناء الشخصيات وتطورها داخل هذا الفضاء.
توزعت الدراسة على مدخل مفاهيمي، وفصل أول نظري تناول فيه مفهوم المدينة من الواقع إلى المتخيل الروائي، من خلال استقراء الخلفيات السوسيولوجية والثقافية، ثم فصلين تطبيقيين تم فيهما تحليل تجليات متخيل المدينة في روايات بشير مفتي؛ حيث خُصص الفصل الثاني لتمثيلات المدينة الرغبة، بينما تناول الفصل الثالث تمثيلات المدينة الرهبة.
The city maintains a profound interconnection with modern narrative discourse, establishing itself as a salient representation of transformation within contemporary societies. This is attributed to its inherent social, psychological, and cultural dimensions, which configure it as a complex imaginary (mutakhayyal) wherein the conflicts, anxieties, and fragmented identities of the contemporary individual crystallize.
This spatial dynamic has actively contributed to the reconfiguration of narrative structure, particularly through its intersection with representations of power, marginality, and memory. Consequently, the city emerges in numerous novels, prominently within Algerian literature, as a symbolic alternative to a reality in crisis and as a semantic domain that re-produces the relationship between the individual and the locale. In this context, the city in the novels of Bachir Mufti transcends its mere urban or architectural dimension; it functions as a cultural discourse saturated with signification, articulating the anxieties of the self and participating in its reproduction.
This dissertation endeavors to analyze the urban imaginary in the oeuvre of Bachir Mufti, employing a cultural reading methodology. This approach interrogates the narrative discourse as a cultural artifact that generates meaning via representation, reflecting the profound transformations within Algerian society, specifically during the post-colonial era and the "Black Decade".
The study posits that the city within this discourse is not presented as a mere realist datum, but functions as a symbolic space. It is within this space that characters navigate, and through which the significations of identity, belonging, alienation (ightirāb), and the aspiration for liberation from oppression and marginalization are articulated.
To analyze this urban imaginary, we utilize theoretical instruments and concepts derived from Cultural Studies, focusing on the deconstruction of discourse and its representations, and the elucidation of cultural symbols latent within the narrative language. We specifically examine how the urban space is constituted through the affective binary of Desire (al-Raghba) and Dread (al-Rahba) and their attendant cultural implications. Furthermore, we analyze the relationship between the city's material culture and the construction (bināʾ) and development of characters within this milieu.
The dissertation is structured into a conceptual introduction, followed by a first theoretical chapter that examines the concept of the city from reality to the novelistic imaginary through an exploration of its sociological and cultural underpinnings. It is then followed by two analytical chapters devoted to examining the manifestations of the urban imaginary in Bashir Mufti's novels. Chapter Two focuses on representations of the "City as Desire," whereas Chapter Three explores representations of the "City as Dread."
