Certains travaux de la sociologie économique contemporaine, comme ceux menés par Mark Granovetter (1973, 1983) sur la recherche de l'emploi, ont affirmé la thèse de la force de liens faibles. Cette thèse a été transposée à l'entrepreneuriat et cela grâce aux travaux de Hills et Al. (1997), Singh et Al. (1999). Ces derniers ont déduit que l'entrepreneur disposant d'un réseau de liens forts, réussit à créer son entreprise, qu'un entrepreneur seul, ou un entrepreneur disposant d'un réseau de liens faibles.
